History of the Coalition
The Ellis County Coalition for Economic Development began in 1988. After the loss of a major employer in Hays occurred during the time when the local agricultural and agribusiness sectors remained repressed and worldwide there was a decline in oil prices, no dimension of the local or regional economy escaped the downturn. It was at this time that both public and private Ellis County community leaders began to realize there was a problem and needed to find a solution. The Coalition was formed as a result.
The mission of the Ellis County Coalition for Economic Development is to retain and attract employment and investments in a diversified local economy consistent with community economic development priorities.
The Ellis County Coalition for Economic Development is committed to ensuring economic vitality and innovation to enhance the community and quality of life for Ellis County citizens.
