St. Patrick's Day Festivities

In like a lion and out like a lamb. That is what the weather for the month of March has been like. With March coming to a close, the Chestnut Street District has several successful St. Patrick’s Day festivities to look back upon.

The St. Patrick’s Day Celebration at Coffee Rules Lounge, 1011 Elm Street, was a tremendous hit on Monday, March 17. The celebration began with a fantastic demonstration of Celtic bagpipes at 4:00 p.m., followed by live music from “Mother Folkers” and a Celtic jam. Kids enjoyed specials on lime sodas and green apple soft-serve ice cream, while adults indulged in corned beef and cabbage, Guinness cakes, Guinness floats, “Irish car bombs” and pretty much anything associated with the traditional Irish “pint.” Commemorative t-shirts were sold and several hundred people gathered for this first annual St. Patrick’s Day celebration. Also celebrating the green holiday was Gella’s Diner & Lb. Brewing Co. located at 117 E. 11 Street. Festivities began on Friday, March 14, with live entertainment from Mario Lazoya and ended on Saturday with the Warm Guns band. A green wheat ale was the beer of choice for many of the guests throughout the two-day green celebration.

C. S. Post and Co., 117 W. 11 Street, also celebrated St. Patrick’s Day with green hot chocolate as well as green products throughout their store. “In addition to our festive green merchandise, we are also in the process of receiving new spring and garden merchandise as well as preparing for our second annual Annex Sale which will be April 4-5 and 11-12 across the street in the former Eli’s Room building,” commented Sandy Keller, manager of C.S. Post & Co.

“St. Patrick’s Day was an absolute blast,” said Jason Rule, owner of Coffee Rules. “We met new people, listened to incredibly talented musicians, and introduced what we hope will become a Hays tradition. We could not have asked for a better celebration.”
