Chestnut Street District Becomes Official The Downtown Hays Development Corporation first began using the Chestnut Street District name and logo in March 2001. “The logo was created to help promote the economic development and revitalization of downtown Hays, as well as provide advertising and marketing recognition for the downtown businesses,” explained Sabrina William, Downtown Hays Development Coordinator. The decision to register the Chestnut Street District logo came from the DHDC Board and volunteers about a year and a half ago. “We decided registering the logo would help us in future marketing efforts for the downtown area, as well as help us protect the downtown identity we have spent so many years establishing,” explained Sabrina. “While Chestnut Street District is not an area with a defined boundary, it is a physical concept which allows us to more effectively market downtown Hays as a distinctive district different than the downtown areas in other communities.” The DHDC owns the rights to the logo. The registration process, which began in February 2007, took nearly a year to complete. Aiding in the efforts were Mark Bannister, former DHDC Board member; and attorneys Joel Bannister, Fort Hays State University Alum, and Brian Owens of Patton Boggs LLP Attorneys At Law in Dallas, TX.
