Pound Plunge 2

Several Chestnut Street District merchants helped area community members “punch out the pounds” downtown as they sponsored the first week of Pound Plunge 2.

Pound Plunge, a program started last year by the Center for Health Improvement and Eagle Radio Mix 103.3, encourages community members to start living an active and healthy lifestyle. The program has proven to be a growing success with more than 1,700 participants this year, which is around 400 more than last year.

Participating merchants were excited to present “Don’t be a couch potato; Punch out the pounds downtown” and handed out a punch card to all Pound Plunge participants during the week of the first weigh-in. The Pound Plunge participants had until January 20 to visit at least seven of the participating businesses to get their card punched. While visiting the businesses, participants were able to select a potato from a “pound” of potatoes for a special discount off their in-store purchase. “The basic idea was to get community members out moving around and create a fun experience for them while strolling through the downtown district. The shopping and dining discounts offered were an added bonus,” explained Sabrina William, Downtown Hays Development Corporation Coordinator.

Any Pound Plunge participant who completes the 12-week program can drop off their downtown punch card at the final weigh-in night on Thursday, April 3 and be entered into a drawing to win a downtown Chestnut Street District gift basket worth approximately $300 in downtown merchandise and gift certificates. Participants do not need to be present for the drawing in order to win. The winner will be notified by telephone.
